Introducing NÜSHU a community for women by the women of Chinatown Run Club.
Nüshu draws its name from the Chinese Nüshu, which literally translates to ‘women’s writing’. Originating in 19th century Jiangyong County in China, it is considered to be the world’s only writing system created and used exclusively by women.
Nüshu was passed down from mothers to their daughters and used to tell stories, provide comfort and express admiration between sisters and friends. It gave women living in a feudal society without access to education an outlet and way to create the bonds of female friendship and support.
We are excited to continue to connect through movement and shared culture, using movement and community as a catalyst for connection.
